DEXAMETHASONE

Dexamethasone is a steroid (corticosteroid) medicine. Steroids closely copy the effects of natural hormones produced in your adrenal glands. The adrenal glands sit above your kidneys. When prescribed in doses higher than your body’s usual levels, steroids like dexamethasone reduce inflammation.

Dexamethasone is used to treat conditions such as arthritis, blood/hormone disorders, allergic reactions, skin diseases, eye problems, breathing problems, bowel disorders, cancer, and immune system disorders. It is also used as a test for an adrenal gland disorder (Cushing’s syndrome).Dexamethasone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It decreases your immune system’s response to various diseases to reduce symptoms such as swelling and allergic-type reactions.

It relieves inflammation (swelling, heat, redness, and pain) and is used to treat certain forms of arthritis; skin, blood, kidney, eye, thyroid, and intestinal disorders (e.g., colitis); severe allergies; and asthma. Dexamethasone is also used to treat certain types of Cancer.
